The worst advice I ever got was "be patient, prove yourself, your time will come."
I did that for years. My time never came. Not until I stopped believing it and did something different.
Here's the part nobody said to my face: no one is coming.
Your manager isn't going to wake up one morning and suddenly see it. The company isn't going to rebuild itself around your career. The system you're in was built to keep you useful, not to make you powerful.
For years I blamed all of it. The boss, the culture, the lack of support. And I was right, it all sucked. But being right kept me trapped. Every time I blamed them, I handed them control.
The shift wasn't working harder. It was repositioning. Keeping my own receipts instead of waiting to be noticed. Writing the proposal nobody asked for. Operating like the role was already mine instead of waiting for permission to have it.
That's when things finally moved.
You have the skills. That was never the problem. What you're missing is the strategy nobody ever taught you.
